There's nothing better than two little "helpers" assisting with housework. Gary knows how to make even mundane things fun for the kids! The kids help me with all kinds of things around the house - dusting, putting their clean laundry away, picking up their toys and helping set and clear their plates. But somehow, whenever daddy is involved, it's always more fun!

Happy Birthday, Gary!
Gary recently celebrated his birthday, and the kids and I had fun making a "Home Depot" cake. Attempting to make, I should say. I went out into the garage and got some of his tools, traced them, and cut them out. Then we frosted it together and I traced the tools. We had a lot of fun making it, but even more fun eating it!

Whiskeytown Lake
When my parents were here, we took a drive to Whiskeytown Lake, which is about 20 minutes from our house. It is a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains and forests. There's a great state park, and we can't wait to do some camping next summer! We hope we never take the beautiful mountain views for granted.

Look Who's Five!
Lily turned five this week! We had a birthday party for her with five of her friends. It was a purse party, so we had a purse cake, purse games, and a purse craft. Fortunately, Leland and his friend Asa were too young to realize it was a very girly party. Gary jumped on the trampoline with the kids, and we played balloon golf, which we started to play outside until all the balloons popped on the grass, so we had to move that game indoors. Pin the handle on the purse was a big hit, and so were the paper purses that they decorated with jewels. The weather was beautiful, about 75 degrees. Lily keeps asking if it's winter yet. She's never had an outdoor birthday party in January before! A great time was had by all, and Lily is sooooo happy to finally be five years old!

Happy Gotcha Day!
We just celebrated two Gotcha Days. Four years ago on December 1st we adopted Lily, and two years ago on December 11th we adopted Leland. iIt's so much fun to look back at the pictures and videos of our trips to China. The time has passed by so quickly! Lily is now in preschool, and Leland has been cast-free for four whole months! They are precious gifts from God, and we are so blessed.

We're Here!
Actually, we've been here for just over a month, but it has been so crazy busy I'm just now getting a chance to download the pictures from my camera. We are unpacked and settled in, and we absolutely love it here in California!
The weather has been beautiful, although it's supposed to cool off to the 40s and 50s next week. Brrrr. It's been in the 70s so far.
LIly's started pre-kindergarten three days a week for three hours, and she loves it. She is making lots of friends and her teacher is really great. Leland isn't as excited about LIly being in school as she is. He really misses her, but I try to do something special with him on the days she is gone.
We are looking forward to my parents coming next week. It will be so much fun to have them here over Christmas! The kids are really excited to see them, too. We just bought a webcam, so it has been fun to "see" and talk to Gary's family and my family on the computer. Technology sure is amazing, and it makes keeping in touch so much better.

At Long Last
I can't believe it has been two months since I've updated the blog. Now that summer is over and we are spending more time inside (it has really cooled down here in Minnesota!) I hope to have more time to blog.
A lot has happened since the beginning of July when I last blogged. This picture was taken at Como Park in St. Paul where we celebrated my birthday. Just a couple of days later Leland fell and broke his leg in two places. They casted both of his legs to keep his non-broken foot from turning back in. Fortunately, he only had to wear them for four weeks, and he's doing great now. He started another round of physical therapy last week, and he has already gained strength and balance in the two sessions he's had so far.
Lily is enjoying learning to read, spell and write. She loves to help in the kitchen, especially making pancakes and cookies. Her favorite thing to do is ride her bike.
I'll update again soon, I promise!
